Ian L Paull.

Ian Paull - is the Managing Director and owner of the company. Ian's origins in aviation stem from a military career as an Army Pilot which began in 1969.

Following basic training on the Winjeel at RAAF 1FTS at Point Cook he graduated as an Army helicopter pilot. He served in a variety of postings including an extensive tour at the US Army Aviation Centre at Fort Rucker , Alabama where he became a flight instructor in 1973.

His final posting in the Army was as Senior Flying Instructor, Rotary Wing at the School of Army Aviation in Oakey , Queensland . Ian was an A2 QFI on Kiowa and Sioux as well as an Instrument Rating Examiner. He left the Army after a 10-year career at the end of 1978, and joined Rex Aviation in Bankstown as a sales pilot and Helicopter CFI. During the next 8 years Ian rose through the ranks of the company to become NSW Manager and was responsible for the sale of some 90 helicopters, primarily Hughes and Aerospatiale.

There followed a period of 6 months as an EMS pilot with the Westpac Rescue Service in Sydney prior to joining the then Department of Aviation as an Examiner of Airmen. He left CASA, (as it was by then), to re-enter the industry at the end of 1996. Since then he has been resident in Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast where the company is based. After 4 years as a senior flight instructor and CASA Approved Test Officer with Chopperline in Caloundra, Ian resigned to form Aviation Solutions. Ian was also the Chief Flying Instructor for Airwork Helicopters at Caboolture for almost four years and is currently Chief Pilot and Chief Flying Instructor at Chopperline Flight Training in Caloundra, one of the country's largest and most respected helicopter flying training schools and Registered Training Organisations. He is a (casual) rescue pilot and check pilot with the Westpac Rescue Service in SE Qld.

He is also a current CASA Approved Test Officer, holds an ATPL(H) and a CPL(A) and has in excess of 10,650 hours.

Ian is endorsed on almost all helicopter types in service in Australia , (including AS350, AS355, SA365, EC120, Agusta A109, BO105, BK117, Bell 212 and 412, Bell 204 and 205, 206, 206L and 47, Hughes and MD 500, 530N, 600N and all piston engine singles. Additionally he is endorsed on a wide variety of aeroplanes, single and multi engine, including high performance turbo props such as the EMB110 Bandierante and AC695 Turbo Commander. He holds Command ME Instrument Ratings, Fixed and Rotary, has been a Qualified Flying Instructor for 32 years and a Civil Grade One Instructor for 27 years since 1978. He is an Independent CASA Approved Test Officer and conducts around 50 Flight Tests per annum for all tests; GFPT, PPL, CPL, NVFR, CIR and Instructor Ratings.

Ian is a former Vice-President of the Helicopter Association of Australasia (HAA) and a former Board Member in the capacity of Treasurer. He is now a Life Member of the HAA and remains an advisor to the Executive of the organisation. He is also a member of the Aviation Safety Foundation Australia.

In early 2004, Aviation Solutions became part of the Av-Centre Group of companies including Chopperline and can now call upon the services of the other members of the group as required. In particular, we are pleased and proud to be associated with Chopperline and Heli-Centre Australia Pty Ltd, (a major Bell Helicopter, McDonnell Douglas, Robinson Helicopter and Schweizer Helicopters Service Centre), Suncoast Aero Engines, and the Institute for Aviation Engineering (a major provider of aviation apprenticeship training), all of which companies are located in Caloundra, Qld.


COMPANY SECRETARY

Karen Paull - is our very capable company secretary and Administration Manager of the company. Karen's office skills are second to none and she is in charge of the day to day business management of the company.

Additionally, Karen is the Manager of the company subsidiary business All Specialist Medical - Typing and Report Work, which not only produces all Aviation Solutions reports and correspondence to gold quality standard, but also carries out contract report typing and correspondence with an extensive number of medical Specialists on the Sunshine Coast as her clients. She can also be found acting as Operations Assistant to the Chief Pilot at Chopperline Flight Training, at Caloundra Airport .


COMPANY ASSOCIATES

As well as being able to call on the services of several highly qualified Licenced Aircraft Maintenance Engineers for assistance with both advice and audit work, the company is pleased to be associated with a number of other highly qualified experts in their fields.

Elio Basso - Elio is an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer – Avionics with over 23 years experience. His expertise in training development is well known within the Australian Defence Forces and allied countries. His specialisation is in Workplace Assessor and Trainer Development, development of Operation Policies and Procedures and Quality Management Systems. Elio was a professional trainer and a manager within the RAAF School of Management and Training Technology. He was an integral part of the RAAF Technical Trades Restructure Team, where he received a High Distinction – Excellence in Training Development from the Federal Government.

More recently, Elio has been directly involved in assisting the Queensland Government in the development of training product for the Aviation Australia Aerospace Industry Training Centre and Operating Procedures for Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service on behalf of Aviation Solutions. Before that, he developed and implemented training packages for the electrical trades and the real estate industry.

Elio has additional small business skills and he established from scratch a successful electrical contractors business on the Sunshine Coast in 1997 and a Registered Training Organisation for Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training. Elio has a strong work ethic, and takes pride in seeing each project through to completion. He is committed to achieving the best possible outcomes with every task and is extremely keen to take on challenges.

Trevor Thrupp - Trevor is a pilot with considerable operational, business development and management experience. He has a wide range of aviation experience in both Defence (24 years) and General Aviation (8 years). His total aviation experience includes single and twin engine helicopter operational tours in both Australia and overseas and through this time he has accumulated over 4,300 flight hours. Trevor's general aviation experience includes extensive media work with all of Brisbane 's commercial television stations.

Trevor has also held the position of Chief Pilot with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service in Queensland , Australia . He has recently added medium twin engine qualifications to his CV; training which has included both STOL and NVG skills development. Trevor has been very heavily involved in operational procedures development in both the Defence and General Aviation environments; these skills have also been used for other industry sectors; eg; the telecommunications industry.

Trevor has considerable experience in assisting Australian companies to position and prepare for tendering for complicated government and Defence related contracts. He has assisted both individual, small, medium and large business, and collaborative teams in:

•  Teaming to provide a cost-effective purpose-built solution for the client
•  Determining whether to tender for government contracts
•  Preparing writing teams for the tender development effort
•  Assisting in the development of tender responses
•  ‘Red teaming' draft tender responses
•  Developing integrated product teams to service contractual requirements.

Trevor's qualifications includes: Masters of Business Administration, Graduate Diploma in Management Studies, Bachelor of Science (Physics). He has also formal training, and is capable of assisting your company, in:

Bill Gibbings – Bill is a widely known and respected airworthiness expert having been in the aviation industry as a pilot and licenced engineer (LAME) for over 45 years. He was formerly the Airworthiness Manager in the CASA Brisbane District Office for many years and is now an independent CASA Delegate and consultant. Bill's particular speciality is in the field of airworthiness certification and he holds delegations in respect of CASR 21.176.
