***New Conversion Exams for overseas CPL and ATPL from 1 April 2011
With effect from 1 April 2011, the conversion exams for overseas CPL and ATPL licences (both aeroplane and helicopter) will consist of the following:
1. Two-part exam consisting of (i) CLWA and (ii) CHUF - for overseas aeroplane CPL
2. Two-part exam consisting of (i) CLWH and (ii) CHUF - for overseas helicopter CPL
3. Three-part exam consisting of (i) CLWA and (ii) AALW and (iii) AHUF - for overseas aeroplane ATPL
Note 1: Parts (i) and (ii) must be attempted and passed in the sequence listed above, that is, the CLWA has to be passed before the AALW may be booked and attempted.
Important: Overseas candidates who plan to attempt the aeroplane ATPL conversion exam must allow for the time involved in the correct sequencing and the possibility of failing part(s) (i) or/and (ii). CASA has a re-training period which blocks out exam re-sit from one to four weeks depending on the scores of the failed exam and the number of times the exam had been failed. The re-training period is a safety-related requirement therefore CASA will NOT reduce it on the basis of the overseas candidate having to leave Australia prior to the completion of the re-training period. If the candidate has an urgent requirement to leave Australia before passing the exams, then he/she should plan to re-sit the exam(s) on his/her return to Australia.
Part (iii) may be attempted on its own without any sequencing involved.
Note 2: The Australian aeroplane ATPL may only be issued to an applicant holding an Australian Command Instrument Rating, therefore the applicant has to pass the Command Instrument Rating (code IREX) as well. The IREX is separate from the conversion exam and may be attempted on its own without any sequencing involved.
4. Three-part exam consisting of (i) CLWH and (ii) AALW and (iii) AHUF - for overseas helicopter ATPL
Note: The sequencing requirements and re-training advice in Note 1 above applies to the conversion exam for an overseas helicopter ATPL.
Overseas Flight Crew Licence to an Australian Licence PPL
A holder of a valid foreign PPL licence that has been issued by an ICAO Contracting State, may convert this licence to an Australian PPL.
You must pass the Overseas Conversion Examination Either PAOS (fixed wing) or PHOS (Helicopter).
